Spring Projects

Our big Spring project is to paint the sloth and kinkajou habitats in a rain forest motif. This will help with the mental stimulation of the animals, closer to their natural habitat. We are also adding jungle sounds and ponds with misters this spring.

Our Current Needs

The Pond is currently in need of material donations. All donations are tax deductible. Some of our greatest needs at this time are:

Dog & Cat Carriers
Water Bottles for Small Cages
Chainlink Fencing
Concrete and Black Top
Screenings
Cages (Bird Cages are useful)

Shavings, Straw, Pet Bedding.  Cat Litter,
Pee Pee Training Pads
Heaters, Heating Pads
Trees
Hanging Feeders

Trees can be purchased at any nursery and we will plant them. We recommend Jim's Trees, 1021 E Eagle Lake Road, Suite 1158, Beecher, IL 60401 - 708-946-6249.

Our Latest Arrivals

Since the beginning of this year Settler's has had quite a few additions to our already large family. Since January we have acquired: nine banded Armadillos, an Anteater, two Armadillos, three Horses, a Bird, a Rabbit, a Pony, three Sugar Gliders, two Two-Toed Sloths, a Pot Bellied Pig and nine adorable day-old Piglets. We are also awaiting the arrival of two Ant Eaters and two Black Tufted Japanese Squirrels from a zoo in Florida. We may also be seeing a Baby Bottle Camel, awaiting a home in Texas.

Chloe the Kinkajou is settling in nicely at the Pond. She is a little over a year old and has been abused. We've got a bit of fear to deal with but, as usually, has taken to Pinky immediately. Chloe will be a permanent resident at Settler's Pond and has inspired Pinky's latest children's book, Chloe, The Kinkajou Finds a Home. Chloe is doing great.  To keep her attention we have placed a couple of trees in her habitat with marshmallows, kiwis and grapes on the branches. It is really fun watching her forage for it and it keeps her thinking. Be sure to check in on Chloe on your next visit.

Jack, our Red Kangaroo, arrived here quite ill at seven weeks old. He is now thriving and healthy. He is a real cutie. He now weighs seven pounds and is  suckling very well. He is just starting to eat crumble. Jack isn't very sure on his feet and doesn't have very good muscle tone. He tries to hop a little but falls over. He is being checked by an expert. We are going to find out what his problem is and help him work with it. He is pretty young so we might be expecting a bit too much too fast.

Stripes, our baby boy Zebra, has adjusted very well to his new home. Gypsy, our pony, had a safe delivery and it is a boy!  He is doing very well and mom did great. We also had a birth of triplet goats, two girls and a boy. All are doing well. Clyde, our new baby camel, will be arriving soon. Clyde has had a rough start. He is in New Hampshire in intensive care, recovering from surgery. He will be transported here as soon as he is strong enough to travel.

We just received four Pandagonian Cavey's and a little baby Wallaby girl.  Also new to the Pond are two Degus and five baby hairless squirrels. All are doing great. Feeding times are every two hours so sleep is in short supply, but love is not. A Florida zoo has contacted the Pond in search of a home for two full-grown red Kangaroos. They're on their way! Pinky feels truly blessed that the Lord has put her into this place at this time in her life. All involved with Settler's Pond deem it an honor to be able to help all of these animals.
